The Children's Movement of Fresno & the Fresno Residents Council invite you to join our very first FRESNO COUNTY COMMUNITY CONGRESS, a unique event where residents from across Fresno County, speaking many languages, and from all cultures and backgrounds, come together, united in one single pursuit: to shift policies that impact our children.
Safe & Inclusive School Communities
Many schools face challenges in ensuring that children feel safe, accepted and joyful when attending school. We believe that schools, in addition to providing academic instruction, must also be welcoming and secure. We also believe that families can be key allies in ensuring student success.
Affordable Housing
In Fresno County, like in many parts of the country, the cost of housing is rising faster than wages; many families are not able to afford to purchase a home, or are forced to pay high rents impacting their family income.
Mental Health for Children & Families
A top area of concern for Residents Council members, mental health is also an area of growing national focus. Mental health is related to wellbeing of children and adults at all levels- from care for acute mental illness and disorders, to everyday support for mental health and wellness challenges is an area of great concern for Fresno County residents.
Digital Acces
Access to the internet is a necessity for families in education, health and work, but many families lack access to affordable, high speed internet. In partnership with our sponsor, ALL CHILDREN THRIVE, we believe that there should be broadband access for ALL in Fresno County.
Childcare
Working families require childcare in order to enter or return to the workforce, however the cost and quality of childcare is a barrier, especially to lower income families.
English Learner Student Success
English Learners are a growing population of students with immense potential, but who also face tremendous challenges. We believe that we, as a community, must invest in the success of students who speak a language other than English in the home, but work to master English in Fresno schools.
